Team Focus is a martial arts facility offering traditional training in Shaolin Kempo Karate with modern day self defense in the Rancho Peñasquitos community. The staff at Team Focus work collectively to deliver the highest quality of Martial Arts and Life Skills Training available for children and adults of all ages.
Our Curriculum

Shaolin Kempo Karate is a traditional martial arts style that combines the 5 animals of Shaolin Kungfu (The Dragon, The Snake, The Tiger, The Leopard, and the Crane) with the linear and powerful movements of Japanese Karate. Team Focus's approach complements the Shaolin Kempo system with modern day application of self defense. All of our classes, group or personal lessons, are taught by qualified Senior or Master Black Belt Instructors.

Empowering students of all ages (4 years old to adults) with autism, ADHD, developmental disabilities, or neurodivergence through martial arts.
Our program enhances ABA therapy for life long social and physical skills. Team Focus, in partnership with San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) provides an exclusive Specialized Adaptive Martial Arts (SAMA) program centered on community, enrichment, achievement, and support.
SAMA is designed to enhance physical coordination by improving balance, coordination, agility, and muscle strength. We boost mental focus by increasing attention span and concentration while developing goal setting and achievement. Our SAMA program helps manage stress and anxiety by promoting emotional stability. Developing social skills is provided through structured interaction with peers.
Team Focus offers two unique and innovative educational learning platforms; in person and on-line tailored for ASD martial art learners. The exclusive on-line curriculum is inspired by Lego instruction designed for success, step by step. The platform makes martials arts learning accessible to all anywhere and anytime.

Tai chi Chuan is a martial art that combines the slow movements of energy, breathing, and stretching techniques. Team Focus provides personal and individualized training of the Yang 24 and 48 short forms.

Beyond the Shaolin kempo training that students receive, there are 18 traditional weapons of Shaolin. Students have an opportunity to learn about the history, applicability, and use of weapons such as the bo staff, sword, nunchucks, spear, sais, kamas, hook swords, quan dao, fan, tai chi long sword, whip chain, and even lightsaber (non Shaolin of course). Students will learn how to handle, twirl, block, and spin different weapons. Training will be provided under the supervision of instructors with safety practices. All weapons will be non-sharp and for demonstration purposes.

Sensei Danny is a Master Instructor with over 25 years of experience teaching lesson and group classes for all age groups and levels. He also has extensive training in helping individuals with ASD and learning disabilities. He holds a Masters in Special Education with an emphasis in ABA from Arizona State University. He is a BCBA candidate in training and also a Certified Autism Specialist (CAS).

A senior instructor at Team Focus with over 20 years of experience teaching and operating a studio. In addition to running the Juniors and Adult programs, sensei Tyler is also a full time teacher for the Escondido Union School District.

Bryer started with Team Focus at the age of 10 years old and now runs our Dragons, Juniors, and Adult programs. Bryer is a strong tournament competitor and has won many regional tournaments in the forms division.

Garrett has been training at Team Focus since the age of four and now strives to pass his experience on to the new generation of students coming into the studio to learn and enjoy the world of martial arts

Oliver is an instructor helping students of all age groups. He has been training at Team Focus since the age of 8 years old. Oliver also has extensive background in wrestling and track and field.
